Wigan Borough CCG
Pharmacy Minor Ailment Scheme
WBCCG commissions a Minor Ailment Scheme which allows patients to consult the Community Pharmacist rather than the GP for a range of current self-limiting minor ailment conditions.
Patients who are exempt from NHS prescription charges can receive treatment from an agreed local formulary free of charge from the Pharmacy.
The service is currently provided by 70 out of 72 Pharmacies across the Borough.
The most commonly treated conditions are fever, head lice, allergy, cough, headache, threadworm and vaginal thrush.
The Family Medical Practice would like to inform our patients of this scheme and encourage the use of this service for the above conditions.
Patients should note that the pharmacist will always advise our patients to make a GP appointment if the service is not appropriate for them or the condition they are concerned about.
If you need further information please contact your local pharmacy and they will provide more details about the scheme.
